  • I am going to start a lot of sites and project this year so I purchases almost 50 domains. My purpose was to start 50 blogs. I hire someone to handle all installations and wordpress tasks. After a short time hiring her, I feel the need to learn everything myself because it is not less than a suicide to give all that information to anyone else. Now my goal is to learn everything and I am on my way.

  • I think learning process is not limited and it is beyond our expectations. I learned a few wordpress techniques 6 months ago and I was able to manage it very well. Now after learning that, I needed a lot of other tutorial to polish my existing knowledge. Past month, I learned a lot of stuff on CSS of WordPress and I designed my own theme which is quite suitable for my existing needs. Thanks for sharing this tutorial.

    Why, thank you Mat!

I hope that my new tutorial will take you on further. Good luck!

  • Hi Sarah,
You and Mat McGarrett are two of the most helpful people I have found on setting up a blog. My head rapidly reaches overload with the usual techno-babble, so it is a relief to find someone who really can explain things CLEARLY. Thank you very much for your free tutorial. I can see a lot of work went into it.
I am happy to order your new ebook, and I am going to do that right now.
    Keep up the good work!

    Hi Sarah

Thanks for the information. I actually had found the widgets which you mentioned and I had referred to them in my previous comment – in brackets. I was just wondering if you are limited to just those or if there are any others that can be added.

    Hi Denis,

You can add widgets on a wordpress.com blog but not plugins. To add widgets, go to ‘Appearance’, ‘Widgets’ and you’ll see all the available widgets on the left-hand side. Click on ‘Add’ on the widget you want to use and it will appear in the sidebar. Then click ‘Save Changes’ and it’s done.

If you want to use plugins you need the wordpress.org platform which is the version of wordpress that you host on your own domain. Check out my new WordPress tutorial for how to do this!

    Hi Sarah

Thank you for the Free Wordpree tutorial. It helped me to set up my first WordPress blog on Wodpress.com. Now I am trying to learn more about it. With the free WordPress.com blog, can you add plugins and widgets (besides those provided with the Theme you use). If so how do you add them.

    Hi Giles,

The free tutorial (which I have temporarily withdrawn because it has become out of date) explains how to build a blog on the free wordpress.com platform. The $15 tutorial shows how to build a blog on the wordpress.org platform, using your own domain and your own hosting account. See the ‘Introduction To WordPress’ in my $15 tutorial – that explains the difference.

    Hi Sarah,
What is the difference between the free tutorial and the one I paid 15$ for? When I wanted to know what is the free tutorial by clicking on the link, I got a error 404 page not found. So I still don’t know the difference.
